Luxury Getaway Puerto Banus – How to make the most of it

Puerto Banús is one of the most exclusive places in Europe and also of the whole world. It is located about six kilometres from the centre of Marbella, in Nueva Andalucía and next to San Pedro de Alcántara.

Discover the History of Puerto Banus

For example, did you know that the full name is Puerto de José Banús? José Banús was the main developer of all the tourist and residential complexes on the Costa del Sol. The port of Marbella was probably his most ambitious project and that is why he gave his name to this port as if he wanted to leave a legacy.

José Banús worked side by side with the architect Noldi Schreck, known for his design and participation in Beverly Hills. Both decided that the port would be the perfect combination of Andalusian culture, with a certain memory of the nearby fishing ports, but with a touch of sophistry and elegance to turn it into a luxurious marina.

The complex was officially opened in 1970 and immediately became the largest entertainment center on the Costa del Sol, attracting tourists worldwide. The port has been rewarded several times with numerous awards such as the “Gold Mercury Internacional” for promoting the area economically and culturally as well as for promoting social cooperation. Or the “Medalla de oro” (Gold Medal) for Tourist Merit in 1975.

Visit the luxurious Marina

Most of Puerto Banús’ money can be found in the marina – this is where the most luxurious yachts and boats in the Mediterranean are moored. A stroll through the harbour is an excellent start to the day – so you can see not only the boats but also the owners, who you won’t see getting in a ‘regular car’ normally. Of course, it is not possible to go to your luxury yacht with an ordinary car, so this is your chance to see the most exclusive cars while enjoying a drink on one of the terraces – and above all hear them!

Go shopping!

Puerto Banús is not only a marina with breathtaking sailing boats and luxury pleasure yachts. It is also one of the most important reference points in the world of fashion. Going shopping in Puerto Banús means you’ll find boutiques from the major Italian and French fashion houses. It seems like a day of shopping in Milan for example. What designers can you find in Puerto Banús? The main ones from around the world like Gucci, Versace, Carolina Herrera, Jimmy Choo, Louis Vuitton, La Perla and many more. If you like shopping, Puerto Banús will not only meet your expectations but also exceed them.

Fine dining

A Luxury Getaway to Puerto Banus is not complete without experiencing the fine cuisine that Puerto Banus offers. Puerto Banus has plenty of restaurants to choose from, mainly located around the marina, offering a fantastic location to enjoy your meal whilst looking out over the Mediterranean and admiring the luxury yachts. A quick top five of restaurants for the good gourmet.

  1. Los Bandidos – Front line of the world-famous Puerto Banús in Marbella for over 31 years, Restaurante Los Bandidos offers innovative classic cuisine in elegant casual surroundings.
  2. El Gran Gatsby – El Gran Gatsby (‘The Great Gatsby’) possesses a privileged and unique position in the emblematic Tower of the Military Government in Puerto Banús.
  3. Dani García – Elegant complex with Andalusian style, in a magnificent subtropical garden that gives it privacy. The guest rooms are bungalow-style, spacious and very comfortable. Its restaurant, Roberto, decorated with lots of wood, offers Italian-style cuisine.
  4. Breathe – A multifaceted gastronomic concept dedicated to connecting people, nature and fresh-thinking gastronomy.
  5. La Sala – Since opening in 2010, La Sala has fast become the place to be seen in Puerto Banus! The ultimate social and dining experience, La Sala has many different areas where you can eat, drink and reconnect with friends.

Go see Antonio Banderas! (sort of..)

Between the marina and El Corte Inglés is the Plaza Antonio Banderas. This square is indeed named after the world-famous actor who was born in Málaga and is the pride of the region.

Go for a walk (we promise you won’t be bored)

Now that you’ve explored the port and after a day of shopping, it’s time to enjoy a walk along the Avenida de Julio Iglesias. There you will find the famous statue “La Victoria”. If you ask in the neighbourhood, they certainly know it under the name “the Russian statue” because according to legend, the statue (designed by the Georgian sculptor Zurab Tsereteli) was donated by the Mayor of Moscow to Marbella. There are more examples of culture to be found in Puerto Banús. There is the Paseo de la Fama Puerto Banús, a kind of Walk of Fame of Puerto Banús, which is dedicated to the most important people who have helped put the area on the map. Another cultural example that can be found in Puerto Banús is the statue “Rinoceronte Vestido Con Puntillas”, the rhino dressed in lace, which was placed there in 2004 and made by famous painter Salvador Dalí. The artist designed the sculpture after his film “La Aventura Prodigiosa de la Encajera y el Rinoceronte” which was released in 1954 and inspired the sculpture of 1956.

A Luxurious day out on the beach

Puerto Banús’ beach is also called Rio Verde Grande beach because it is close to the river delta. The beach is an area of 1.5 kilometres long and 40 meters wide where the waves calmly come ashore.
Due to the slow slope of the beach and the many excellent facilities, it is popular among celebrities, families and, couples. The sunbeds, umbrellas, showers, toilets and other facilities offer everything you could possibly need during your luxury day out on the beach. If you are hungry, there are several restaurants and luxury beach bars on the beach itself where you can enjoy a snack and a drink.
